EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
If there was a "fifth member of Kiss" award to be handed out, guitarist Bob Kulick would probably be the front-running recipient. Not only was he in the running to become the original lead guitarist for Kiss, but he has played (uncredited) on several Kiss releases over the years, and even eventually helped recruit his younger brother, Bruce Kulick, into the Kiss fold. Kulick was born in Brooklyn, New York, and by the early '70s was playing guitar in local bands, as well as a few releases by the obscure outfit Hookfoot, and touring with Patti LaBelle's band, LaBelle.
But it was his answering of an ad in the Village Voice that led to his Kiss tryout on January 17, 1973. Despite the guitar spot going to Ace FrehleyKulick struck up a friendship with Paul Stanley and kept in contact with the group. In the meantime, Kulick played on Lou Reed's classic Coney Island Baby in 1976, before his first of several uncredited appearances on Kiss records occurred, when he supplied lead guitar for many of the studio tracks on side four of Alive II in 1977. His next Kiss-related session occurred a year later (and the only one where he received proper credit), when he appeared
Bruce and Bob Kulick
on Paul Stanley's self-titled solo album. Fast forward four years, and Kulick was invited to supply lead for another Kiss recording -- the four new studio tracks on the otherwise best-of comp KillersKulick's next Kiss-related happening occurred in 1984, hen he recommended the group hire his younger brother as their lead guitarist, which they did. In 1989, Kulick again joined Stanley, this time on the concert stage, for a short solo tour Stanley launched of clubs. Additionally, Kulick has appeared on several releases by Meat Loaf (including touring duties) in the '80s, as well as session work for Mark FarnerDiana RossJanis Ian, and W.A.S.P. over the years, and has produced/played on countless heavy metal tribute albums.

RICHARD LLOYD GUITARIST-SONGWRITER AND FOUNDING MEMBER OF 'TELEVISION' -RESCHEDULED

R   I   C   H   A   R   D
L   L   O   Y   D
CONTINUES HIS ROCK ‘N’ ROLL LEGACY
WITH 'THE COUNTDOWN'
NEW SOLO ALBUM
BY SINGER-SONGWRITER-GUITARIST
AND 'TELEVISION' FOUNDING MEMBER

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

On November 2, Richard Lloyd – founding member of the seminal rock band Television – presents his new album The Countdown on CD and digital via Plowboy Records, with vinyl available in 2019.
A pivotal fixture of the 1970s New York rock scene, Television’s improvisational, intelligent brand of avant-garde punk earned their reputation as a landmark act of the historic CBGB’s landscape, as well as an influence for generations of punk and alternative bands. Lloyd’s technical guitar proficiency was a key component to the band’s unique sound, which established their debut Marquee Moon (1977) as one of the defining albums of the era.

After the band disbanded, Lloyd would go on to lend his signature guitar licks to Matthew Sweet and John Doe, as well as releasing several critically-acclaimed solo albums. Additionally, his recent memoir Everything Is Combustible: Television, CBGB’s and Five Decades of Rock and Roll was published in November 2017 with a second edition being released in paperback on November 2.
On The Countdown, Richard Lloyd creates an honest, natural expression with his stylized guitar sound and swagger. “I can only be me,” he says. “I can't turn into somebody else. So, every record I make is just a progression. I never felt the angst necessary to be a punk. I was too young to be a beatnik and too old to be a hippy. I like to say I’m an anthropologist from another planet who is observing human nature and expressing my observations through rock’n’roll.”

Taking a specific approach on the record, Lloyd’s process was to blend and balance the raw, live energy of in-studio performance with the benefit of technical refinements and additions behind-the-board. “You don't want to overcook the pasta,” he adds. “I never want a Chef Boyardee record. I like mistakes and rough edges. It's all very organic.”
Renowned Nashville session players Dave Roe (bass) and Steve Ebe (drums) served as a solid rhythmic backbone in the studio, cutting the basic 11 tracks in two days, while keys by Joe Bidewell (who played with Lloyd in his band in 1980) were eventually added to the mix. The result is a real rocker’s record, with Lloyd allowing his
trademark fusion of garage rock, thoughtful soul, and power pop hooks to marinate from opening cut “Wind In The Rain” to the soaring heights of the closing title track “The Countdown,” in which he posits blasting off into space as he’s “had enough of planet Earth,” while his guitar and keys propel the listener with him into the stratosphere.

Adorned with his own personal paintings as the foundation for the front and back covers of the CD and vinyl, The Countdown continues the legacy of one of rock’s enduring pioneers.

Renaissance has had a long history spanning close to 50 years since its formation in 1969. With several personnel changes in the beginning years, the sound of the group eventually matured into a unique blending of folk, rock, and classical music including the integration of a full symphonic orchestra. Crowning all of this was the sound of the equally unique five-octave voice of Annie Haslam. During their great success in the 70’s the band toured extensively throughout the world in support of their numerous album releases. Highlights of this era included three sold out concerts at Carnegie Hall with The New York Philharmonic Orchestra and a sold-out concert at The Royal Albert Hall with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Chorale Society, all of which were recorded and released as ‘Live’ albums.

The woman whose crystal clear, high-flying soprano vocals earned her worldwide attention as the lead singer of the English classical rock band ‘Renaissance’ has recently achieved an entirely new level of appreciation as an ‘Intuitive’ painter. Annie is able to ‘tune’ into people, animals, situations, feelings and places, and portray them in her own unique style.
On canvas, Annie Haslam’s unmistakable world of sound is taken into unique vistas of color and vibration, not unlike the flow of her five-octave voice. Transporting the viewer to other worlds and through inner boundaries is her ultimate goal, bringing healing, serenity and peace through her work.
In 2009 Annie and bandmate Michael Dunford reformed ‘Renaissance’.
Sadly Michael passed away in November 2012 and is greatly missed.
Annie decided to keep the music alive and kept touring with Renaissance in support of their album 'Symphony of Light'.

With their musical virtuosity, five strong lead voices, newest technological instrumentation and love for the music, they have created a new sound taking them into a new age and performing the repertoire with powerful precision across the world. This incarnation of Renaissance is new and different and is nothing short of amazing!
Annie Haslam & Renaissance recently released their new DVD entitled ‘A Symphonic Journey’ and are currently embarked on their Day of the Dreamer Tour –in support of their new DVD/2CD set while performing selected US dates this Fall.

Purchase the brand-new DVD/CD set from Renaissance entitled ‘A Symphonic Journey’ at amazon.com
The DVD was filmed in October of 2017 and included for the first time the addition of The Renaissance Chamber Orchestra, a hand-picked group of 10 musicians, including strings, woodwind, brass and percussion. For this new DVD the band returned to the Keswick Theatre, this time employing the use of track and boom mounted cameras to create more up close and personal shots of the band and orchestra. The concert also featured large screen projections of original paintings by Annie Haslam, with corresponding titles to each song performed throughout the concert.

Also, ‘Annie Haslam’ signed copies will be available through the band’s website: http://www.renaissancetouring.com

At 15 Sonja Kristina was studying drama whilst sharing billing with such luminaries as Sandy Denny, Al Stewart and Buffy Saint Marie.
Sonja, a barefoot hippie wild-child whose friends in the late ‘60s were radical revolutionaries, Hells Angels, writers and poets, and celebrated musicians, played Chrissie in the Original London Cast of Hair in 1968. In 1970 Sonja Kristina became the voice of Curved Air.

Curved Air soon became renowned for their virtuosity and thrilling shows. Their albums were top 20 best sellers, as was the hit single Back Street Luv. The influential original members were electric violinist Darryl Way, electronica pioneer and guitarist/ keyboard player, Francis Monkman and drummer Florian Pilkington- Miksa. From 1970 to the present-day Sonja Kristina has been the one constant member of Curved Air.
In 1973, 17-year-old Eddie Jobson (Roxy Music / UK/ Frank Zappa) replaced both Monkman and Way during the ‘Air Cut’ era. In 1974 -76 Stewart Copeland came straight from college to critical acclaim as Curved Air’s drummer. At the end of ’76 Curved Air broke up and Sonja had a ringside seat at the birth of Punk and the astronomic rise of Stewart’s band ‘The Police’, during Sonja and Stewart’s 16-year relationship.

By1989 Sonja Kristina re-invented folk rock with a fiery brand of music she dubbed Acid Folk. Curved Air’s violinist Paul Sax and Keyboard player Robert Norton toured with Sonja Kristina’s Acid Folk Band until 1996, playing Glastonbury and other festivals year after year.
Since 2000 Sonja has been working with Composer/Producer/ Cellist/Violinist Marvin Ayres, known for his unique manipulation of sound textures and audio-visual installations. They have two releases as MASK. “Heavy Petal, the Tene-brous Odyssey of Jack and Virginia’ and ‘Technopia’.

Marvin Ayres produced the 2012 Curved Air ‘Live Atmosphere’ CD.

The constant flame leading Curved Air through the decades, Sonja Kristina's hypnotic attraction endures today, "vibrant and edgy as ever, Sonja, the original prog diva gives a charismatic and highly visual performance. Looking like a glamorous gipsy queen with her flowing red hair and dressed in sparkly black, that signature voice is still smoky and seductive as she spins around the stage around the excellent musicians who are Curved Air". EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

The Pineapple Thief have launched their brand new video for “Try As I Might”, the new single from their forthcoming new studio album Dissolution. The highly anticipated follow up to 2015’s Your Wilderness, is the band’s second album to feature King Crimson and Porcupine Tree drummer Gavin Harrison.
Vocalist, songwriter and guitarist Bruce Soord explains his dystopian view “The video follows the theme of the song and the album – if you sign up to this hyper connected world we live in, then you have to live with the consequences. Try as you might to get out of it.”
The futuristic clip was created by Blacktide Phonic/Visual (www.black-tide.co.uk) director George Laycock, who expands on how he created the film “When The Pineapple Thief came to me with their track ‘Try as I might’, they had a broad basis for an idea for a music video that dealt with a social media obsessed ‘connected’ world.
This had nods to previous films and television like ‘The Truman Show’, ‘Black Mirror’, the ‘Big Brother’ landscape and its preceding shows, so it was about creating a storyline using these broad influences and encapsulating into an obscure 3-minute film on a budget.

I was interested in the concept of ‘in eye cameras’, scary technology and I am sure isn’t too far away from us. We decided to go down the optical medical route and follow our character on a journey from first pre-operation, to surgery, recovery and then trying to battle the decision he has made, whilst battling with the corporation he has signed up too. The film hopefully leaves the viewer to create their own conceptions on his outcome.
We filmed it all on the Dorset/Devon coastline around where I live and were fortunate to be able to secure great locations to shoot in with a few favours, including a remote seaside post-modern house, a private beach and a real working hospital and opticians.
To keep the cast down to a minimum we decided that the camera that is watching Bruce would become the main supporting actor and his nemesis, appearing in scenes without anyone operating it. This allowed us to see the cameras point of view and tell the story to the fictional viewer. This old broadcast camera weighed an absolute ton, and carrying through remote woods, down a mile-long steep cliff path to a beach was a challenge on some of the hottest days of the year. Filming in the water at the end was a welcome refreshment.

The Pineapple Thief have grown to become one of the leading lights of Europe’s experimental rock domain, Your Wilderness produced 4m+ album streams, a #7 in the UK Independent Charts and two extensive headline European tours culminating at London’s Islington Assembly Hall where the concert was recorded for the live release Where We Stood, and their new album Dissolution promises to propel the band to even greater heights.
