Arthur Brown is a truly groundbreaking rock music icon
who pioneered a theatrical approach to musical performance that has been cited
as an influence on Rock Hall of Famers Alice Cooper and KISS. Going under the
memorable moniker The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, the British-born singer
achieved breakthrough success with a blockbuster hit single in 1968, the
colossal freakout “Fire,” which he used as a launching pad for an incredible
career that continues to this day! Written by Brown and Alan Davey, formerly of British
space rock kings Hawkwind, who not only produced the track but performs on it
as well, “Zombie Yelp” rides a distinctively spooky retro groove laid down by
the vintage keyboards of Vanilla Fudge founder Mark Stein as well as Davey’s
driving bass guitar, all of which set the stage for the Brown’s unearthly vocal
delivery that ranges from piercing howls to demonic growls.
It’s the perfect
mix of psych rock ecstasy and campy fun! Davey shares these thoughts about working on the
track, “It was great fun writing this new song with Arthur, he’s always a hoot
to work with and his lyrics on this are funny as feck! I’m proud to have mixed
and produced it too.”Stein reflects on his own history with Brown, saying
“The Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Vanilla Fudge shared the stage back in the
late ‘60s.
Arthur is still crazy after all these years and still killin’ it!
‘Zombie Yelp’ is a wild tune with great grooves and lyrics. I had a blast
playing organ on it. Just wait till you hear this track…lovin’ it!”And Brown sums it up perfectly, in his typically
enigmatic fashion, “Spirits lagging? Need some help? Dive right in to the
‘Zombie Yelp’!”

BOOK REVIEW
-By Literary Titan (5) STARS
The Rock Star Chronicles, by Ray
Shasho, is a splendid book written by a music enthusiast who has poured their
heart and soul into it. It’s a story of a boy who loved rock music, and his
obsessive passion of it earned himself the name Rock Raymond. He went to school
but instead was schooled in all matters of music while his peers were buried
chin-deep in coursework. He then became a radio DJ and has now compiled a book
on all interviews he held with Rock gods who raided the airwaves back in the
70s and 80s. It’s a compilation of interviews with outstanding vocalists,
legendary guitarists and crazy drummers in the rock music scene. Each interview
gives a reader an in-depth view into their personal lives and the philosophies
that guide their lives which all serve to humanize these great icons. For
readers who are old enough to call themselves baby boomers this book will bring
old memories back to life. Millennials, on the other hand, may think of this
book as a literal work of the Carpool Karaoke show.
The Rock Star Chronicles is a book I
didn’t know I was waiting for. To come across a book that will talk me into
trying something new. One brave enough to incite me to venture into new
frontiers. This book made me a believer- I am now a bona fide Rock and Roll
music fan.
Ray Shasho masterfully gets the
interviewees talking. He smartly coaxes answers from them with crafty questions
designed to get a story rolling out of them. The artists talk about diverse
issues ranging from music, politics, and their social engagements. Having been
on the music seen all his life, Ray Shasho knows the buttons to press, how to
get them comfortable about talking about their lives.
The book’s cover is befitting of its
subject matter with the leather look offering a royal background to the golden
letter print. It speaks to how high a level rock music holds in the pecking
order- arguably, modern music as we know it has originated from blues and rock
music. The second noteworthy thing is the use of high definition pictures
to reference the musician being interviewed in every sub-chapter. This ensures
that the book is for both original rock and roll lovers and aspiring new ones.
Together is makes for a refreshing and consistently enjoyable read.
I recommend this book to rock music
enthusiasts, aspiring musicians wondering what it takes and all readers curious
to learn new things by going back in time.

New album ...A double CD affair
Entitled
'50 YEARS' of J E T H R O T U L L
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
Martin Barre the guitarist
of Jethro Tull for over 43 years, his sound and
playing was a major factor in their success. Album sales have exceeded 60
million units and they continue to be played worldwide, representing an
important part of classic rock history.
Martin’s guitar playing has earned him
a high level of respect and recognition; he was voted 25th best solo ever in
the USA and 20th best solo ever in the UK for his playing on ‘Aqualung’.
His playing on the album ‘Crest of a Knave’ earned him a Grammy award in
1989.
As well as numerous Jethro Tull albums, Martin has worked with
many other artists including Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, Gary Moore, Joe
Bonamassa and Chris Thompson and has shared a stage with such legends as
Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
Martin has put together a band to
play the “classic” music from the Tull catalogue. His band is
a total commitment to give the Tull fans and a broader audience the chance to
hear tracks not performed for many years. The band includes top musicians from
a similar background.
More recently Martin has collaborated with original Tull band
members Clive Bunker and Dee Palmer on a tour
across America celebrating 50 Years of Jethro Tull!
On Friday November 6, The Store for Music record label will
proudly release worldwide Martin’s new album…a double CD affair entitled 50
Years of Jethro Tull.
CD number one features Martin and his band doing live
in-studio electric performances of Jethro Tull songs…both classic tracks and
deep album cuts from Tull’s earlier days….with new arrangements with Martin and
his band putting their own stamp on these amazing songs.
The second CD features Martin and his band doing their own new
versions of primarily classic acoustic songs from various periods of Tull’s
legendary catalog.
Martin and the band’s take on all these songs is fresh,
inventive, interesting and, of course, extremely well done.
